If you are interested in joining the LAU mailing list, please read this page thoroughly, and also the general mailing list information.
The LAU list is intended for people focusing on using rather than hacking audio and MIDI applications. It's a place for all things audio, but they should be viewed from a user's perspective. If it's getting overly technical, take it as a sign to move it over to the LAD list.
You can post to LAU to
It is customary for developers to cc: their release announcements here, and for artists to announce music "Made with Linux".
Discussions range from basic installation questions to very advanced tasks. Please refer to the archive before posting. Many inquiries are frequently discussed and you may find yours already answered - or better yet, stumble across a HOWTO someone has written and announced on the list. Even if not, the archive might help you to specify your question.
Questions on how to set up your system are clearly on-topic on LAU, but for audio driver and hardware installation issues, you should consider going to the ALSA mailing lists instead.
If you're using OSS, you should consider switching to ALSA (here's why), so the same rule applies :)
LAU should provide a forum for broad discussion of the use of Linux audio/MIDI software, encouraging Q&A between users and developers. Very specific questions may be routed to their more specific lists (ALSA, SoundTracker, Csound, etc.) but LAU may be considered as a wide zone for user I/O.
The web interface for the LAU list is at http://lists.linuxaudio.org/mailman/listinfo/linux-audio-user/.
This should be the method of choice for most users. It is the fastest and easiest way to control your subscription. Making changes requires a personal password, which you must choose when you subscribe.
A password reminder will be mailed to you once a month.
Alternatively, you can use an email interface. If you are familiar with the Majordomo mailing list handler, you will notice that Mailman uses almost the same command set. The address of the email interface is linux-audio-user-request@lists.linuxaudio.org.
Commands can either be sent in the subject or the body of the message. Be sure to have your .signature separated from the text by a line starting with a dash ("-"). Otherwise it will be misinterpreted as Mailman commands and you will receive error messages. Upon completion, the results will be mailed back to you.
Here are some important commands:
By default, the sender's address will be affected, unless you add an email address after the command. Since Mailman has per-list request addresses, you do not need to specify a list name.
In case of problems, you can reach the list owner at linux-audio-announce-owner@lists.linuxaudio.org.
The list address is linux-audio-user@lists.linuxaudio.org.
Do not send Mailman commands to this address!
Please allow a few hours for the message to get through. Do not post test messages - most things can be tested by making sure the mail relay on your side is properly configured, and by checking the web interface (see above). Should your message be held for some reason (perhaps due to a false positive from a spam filter), you will receive a message saying so.
By default, replies go to the list.
